Minutes of Regular Council Meeting

 

 

 

June 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem, Michael Headley.

The Pledge of Allegiance was repeated by all present. 

Present were: Council members, Mike Headley, Mark Haver, Mick Pocratsky, Ron Beverly, and Mike Barth;  Clerk/Treasurer, Diane Collins;  Administrator, Kent Miller and Solicitor, Troy Essex. There were  5 visitors present.

 

Haver moved to approve the June 4, 2012 minutes.   Beverly seconded.  All voted yes.

Beverly moved to approve the bills.  Pocratsky seconded.  All voted yes.

 

Police/Fire/EMS Committee:  Headley held a committee meeting prior to this meeting.  They decided to keep things as they are on the EMS.  Barth moved to forgive a portion of the Hicksville Fire Depts. charges on a Defiance County EMA bill owed by Randolfo and Tarrah Jasso.  No explanation of the charges was given. Beverly seconded.  All voted yes.  Beverly asked if a water meter issue was going to be discussed.  Headley stated he wants to wait until Jones returns from vacation.

 

Water/Sewer/Refuse:   Pocratsky reported the committee met on June 14 at the Community Church on Meuse Argonne.  Someone from the church is claiming they had plumbing issues when the water tower was down for repairs.  Also the committee was asked to make decisions on some water bill related issues.  The committee prefers to wait until council member Ron Jones is back from vacation to include him on the decision making. 

 

Administrator’s Report:    Miller informed residents that the garbage collection that would normally be held on Wednesday, July 4 will be held on Thursday, July 5 instead.   He also is supporting the recycling center’s personnel’s request to ban smoking at the recycling center due to a lack of moisture.

 

AEP is offering a grant which would give us a rebate on fluorescent light bulbs if we change them over toT8’s or T4’s.  RCAP has offered to do a study to report the cost to swap all the lighting for $3500.  Eric Bassett was present at the meeting and explained what the school did, what the cost savings was and who the company was that he used.  JobWorks clients did some of the work of changing out the bulbs.  Miller will contact Power House for help before running it by a committee of council.

 

The April and May Water Supply & Treatment Report of Operations were shared.

 

Miscellaneous: 

Ordinance 2012-06 to allow Ohio Gas to maintain a gas distribution system in Hicksville was read by caption only for the third reading.  Pocratsky moved to approve.  Haver seconded.  All voted yes.

 

Clerk/Treasurer’s Report:  Collins had a monthly Mediacom report in the packet for council review.

 

Police/Fire/EMS:  There was nothing reported.

 

Mayor’s Report:    Mayor Pro Tem, Mike Headley thanked everyone for the good job they are doing and again congratulated Chief Laurie Szabo on her retirement.

 

Barth moved to adjourn. Beverly seconded.  All voted yes.
